Why do you want to be a Minnesota Association of Government Communicators board member?
Since starting with the City of Woodbury, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the role communication plays in building trust and transparency with residents. Serving on the board would allow me to give back, while continuing to learn from others who are equally passionate about the craft.
I’m passionate about growing as a communicator and sharing my knowledge with others. I see the MAGC board as a great opportunity to contribute fresh ideas and collaborate with talented peers. I am especially interested in helping to offer more educational opportunities to communicators across Minnesota and creating spaces for idea-sharing between seasoned and emerging professionals. I’d love to help foster a culture where members feel inspired and celebrate creative risk-taking in public service communication.
What skills, knowledge or expertise do you bring to the board?
As a graphic designer and social media manager, I bring an understanding of visual storytelling and digital engagement. I’m constantly learning and evolving by attending webinars, experimenting with new tools and social platforms, and participating in professional events like the Government Social Media Convention. I also recently spoke at the MAGC Fall Conference on a panel about AI in communications, giving practical advice that communicators can use to enhance their workload and get the most out of their prompts.
My design background allows me to see storytelling visually, while my social media experience helps me connect messages with residents. I enjoy creatively communicating more complicated government programs that benefit residents, translating large concepts into accessible, engaging content that resonates. I think my curiosity and adaptability helps me see communication challenges from multiple angles and find creative solutions.
What else would you like us to know about you as a candidate for the MAGC board?
I am still relatively new in my career; however, I see that as a strength. I bring enthusiasm and a willingness to learn from those around me, while offering fresh perspective, passion, and creative energy.
My personal communication pillars: creativity, collaboration, and curiosity guide how I approach my projects. They remind me to stay imaginative in my ideas, intentional in how I connect with others, and always eager to learn something new. I believe that combination of energy and growth mindset would make me a valuable, engaged contributor to the MAGC board.
I thought I would throw in a fun fact about me at the end! Fun fact: I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and have been a part of more than 50 theatrical productions in the last ten years!
