Current Position and how long
Senior Communications Specialist, 1 year
Why do you want to be a Minnesota Association of Government Communicators board member?
I am seeking to serve on the MAGC Board to help continue strengthening the community that helped shape my professional journey. MAGC has been instrumental in connecting communicators across all levels of government, and I want to contribute to sustaining that momentum. Our field continues to evolve rapidly especially with new technology, shifting audience expectations, and an increased focus on accessibility and transparency. I believe MAGC is uniquely positioned to help public-sector communicators navigate those changes with confidence and creativity.
As a past president, I know firsthand the value of this association: peer learning, mentorship, and celebrating the impact of our work. I'd be honored to help the board continue offering meaningful professional development opportunities and inclusive spaces for collaboration and recognition.
What skills, knowledge or expertise do you bring to the board?
I bring more than 15 years of experience in public relations, outreach, and digital communication, including over six years in local government. My career has centered on connecting residents, staff, and organizations through clear, engaging, and equitable communication.
In my current role as Senior Communications Specialist for Carver County Public Works, I lead outreach and engagement strategies for transportation and infrastructure projects. My work involves translating complex engineering concepts into messages that inform, build trust, and invite community participation. I collaborate regularly with elected officials, consultants, and state and city partners to ensure consistent and transparent communication.
I also bring leadership and governance experience from serving as president and interim treasurer of MAGC, as well as on the boards of the Luther College Alumni Council and Highland District Council. Those experiences have strengthened my ability to balance strategic planning, member engagement, and operational priorities within a nonprofit structure.
What else would you like us to know about you as a candidate for the MAGC board?
I am deeply committed to elevating the role of government communicators as trusted public servants and storytellers. I believe in leading with empathy, collaboration, and curiosity. Those values are essential for effective communication in the public sector.
My vision for MAGC includes continuing to grow our network across all regions of Minnesota, expanding learning opportunities for new professionals, and creating more platforms to highlight member success stories. I'm also passionate about ensuring MAGC remains a welcoming, inclusive space that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.
Serving again on the MAGC Board would be an opportunity to give back to an organization that has been such an important part of my own professional growth and to help advance our collective mission of communicating with style and substance.
