Organization
Minnesota Department of Revenue
Current Position and how long
Plain Language Program Coordinator - 8 years
Why do you want to be a Minnesota Association of Government Communicators board member?
I'm currently a board member and I'd love to continue serving you on the MAGC board as we evolve into a larger organization and refine our direction!
What skills, knowledge or expertise do you bring to the board?
I'm a communications veteran, with over 30 years in the field, so a wealth of experience and knowledge in our field! I presented a plain language class I developed, Writing for Understanding, at our 2023 Fall Conference and again an MAGC webinar earlier this year. I've taught the class at many state, city, county and nonprofit agencies over the last several years.
I also teach editing and several other short sessions on communication topics, like powerful presenting, elevator pitches, and plain language challenges and processes.
I've mentored Revenue's Leadership Academy students for almost a decade, helping develop future leaders in government.
I'm part of the Northern Lights Awards committee and one of the hosts of the event, so if you love the show and the jackets... please consider keeping me around!
What else would you like us to know about you as a candidate for the MAGC board?
I'm passionate about helping communicators learn and grow as the field evolves, and how MAGC adapts to meet those needs as well. I have a strong belief in how accessible communications build equity and strength into our systems.
I'd love to continue serving you as a board member with your support! Thank you for considering me!
