Kaili Braa

Dakota County CDA

Current Position and how long

Assistant Director of Administration and Communications - 5 years

Other experience: Professional, communications, education or anything else you'd like to share

I have had the ability to grow tremendously in my current role, including growth I never anticipated into communications, a field that I find exciting and challenging. In this capacity, I get to connect with others internally and externally through our website, intranet, emails, and social media, and see just how vital communication is to our agency and the work we do.

My education experience includes a degree in Sociology from Minnesota State University - Mankato, and two professional certificates from the University of Minnesota College of Continuing Education: one in Project Management and one in Communications. I currently hold a credential as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) through the Project Management Institute (PMI).

I have served on the MAGC Board for the past two years, and the MAGC Fall Conference Planning Committee for the past four years; I would be delighted and honored to continue serving this organization in those capacities!

Why do you want to be a Minnesota Association of Government Communicators board member?

Having been a Board member of MAGC for the past two years has been amazing, but I feel like there is so much more tremendous growth ahead to better serve our members. The training, conferences, and networking opportunities that membership in MAGC provides have been invaluable to my career, and I hope to continue to give back to this great organization through continued service.

What qualities and attributes will you bring to the organization?

I am highly organized, and a detailed notes-taker, and knowing those traits, very happy serving as your MAGC Secretary. I like to, and always try to bring open-mindedness and positivity to everything I do.

What do you consider to be the major issues facing government communicators today?

There are a number of things, but here are my top two:

  • Being constantly asked to do more with less.

  • Fake news / public skepticism and wariness.
